The qualified teams are:
Africa: Guinea, Egypt
Americas: USA, Canada, Puerto Rico, Argentina
Asia: Australia, New Zealand, China, Philippines
Europe: Türkiye (Hosts), Spain, Italy, France, Lithuania, Germany
Scheduled to take place in Türkiye from June 29 to July 7, 2024, the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2024 will feature seven countries who did not take part in the previous edition in 2022. It will be the first participation for Guinea. China, Germany, Italy, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and hosts Türkiye are making a return to the stage.
USA, who have won all previous six U17 World Cups, were crowned champions of the U16 Americas Championship 2023 with a 118-36 win over Canada in the title game. The two finalists are joined at the U17 World Cup by Puerto Rico and Argentina who made it to the Semi-Finals of the competition.
Guinea made a historic run to win the U16 African Championship 2023 for the first time, beating Egypt 84-76 in the championship game. Both teams had qualified for the U17 World Cup by making it to the Final of the tournament.
Spain, runners-up of the U17 World Cup in 2022, claimed their sixth U16 European Championship title with a 77-68 win over Italy. France, Lithuania, and Germany complete the cast of teams to qualify for the U17 World Cup from Europe, joining hosts Türkiye.
Two-time U17 World Cup Finalists Australia outlasted New Zealand to win the U16 Asian Championship 2023 crown 79-76. They were among the last teams to confirm their spots at the U17 World Cup, including the other Semi-Finalists, China and the Philippines.
