FIBA AfroBasket 2025 Qualifiers

Morocco replace Mozambique in 2025 AfroBasket Qualifiers

    Press Release

Morocco have a second chance after falling short in the Pre-Qualifiers.

ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - Morocco have replaced Mozambique in the upcoming 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers, FIBA confirmed on Monday, November 11.

The decision comes after Mozambique informed the Regional Office Africa of their unavailability due to the current political unrest in the country.

Therefore, the he Regional Office Africa selected Morocco as Mozambique's replacement on the basis of their results in the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Pre-Qualifiers and their position in FIBA World Rankings.

Morocco, who currently rank 18th in Africa (97th in the world), came up short in a two-game Pre-Qualifiers series against Libya held in Monastir, Tunisia, in February.

Morocco are now added to Group A, which includes South Sudan, DR Congo and Mali.

Window two of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers will take place in Dakar, Senegal from November 22-24.

Morocco last featured in the AfroBasket in 2017 when they finished fourth. Morocco finished last in Group E of the 2021 AfroBasket Qualifiers, missing out the last edition of the African Championship held in Rwanda.
