BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office – Asia held a two-day statisticians workshop on Jan 19 and 20 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
A total of 14 participants, both male and female attended the workshop. The purpose of this workshop is to improve the quality and increase the number of licensed statisticians and further improve and develop the game of basketball in Mongolia.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to host this workshop and to contribute to the professional growth of statisticians in our region. The positive feedback reflects the success of this initiative, and we are committed to conduct more high-quality workshops in the future,” said Tugsjargal Sambuu, Secretary General of the Mongolia Basketball Association (MBA)
The workshop is part of the Regional Office’s continuous efforts to improve the different departments of its national federations, including the statisticians, who are becoming an integral part of basketball games.
“The sessions were well-structured and engaging, offering a combination of theoretical insights and hands-on practice tailored to meet FIBA's high standards for basketball statisticians,” Sambuu said.
“In the beginning I wasn’t sure what I would learn, but ended up learning a lot,” said E.Bilguunbaatar a participant.
Norjin-Yangag, another participant, was even more specific on what they learnt.
“There was this huge doubt we had about the meaning of an assist. We got clarified on that as well as many such definitions.”
Sambuu summed it up: “Overall, the participants left with a strong sense of accomplishment and readiness to contribute to basketball events with enhanced statistical accuracy.”
