PHOENIX (USA) - Vasilije Micic believes FIBA EuroBasket 2025 has the potential to be one of the best-ever, as he targets more success with Serbia.
The Phoenix Suns guard was part of the Serbian team that earned a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, whilst they were also runners-up at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
We all want to play for the national team, and this is our biggest pride.
Their attention will soon turn to FIBA EuroBasket 2025 with the prospect of another star-studded roster putting Serbia among the favorites to claim the title (see Volume 1 of the Smart Power Rankings).
"We always think about gold, but still we don't have it," Micic said. "We all want to play for the national team, and this is our biggest pride - hopefully we can be healthy this summer, and play good basketball."
Micic averaged 14.8 points and 7.5 assists per game at the last edition in 2022 as Serbia failed to make it onto the podium with an early Round of 16 exit against Italy in Berlin, Germany.
This time around they will head to Riga, Latvia, where they hope to set up camp for the duration of the tournament. Serbia will take on Estonia in their tournament opener on August 27.
Micic added: "I think we are going to have so many national teams that are capable of winning a medal.
"I hope that everyone is going to play, because that is going to be one of the best EuroBaskets. The last one was amazing, but this one with everyone healthy could be very, very interesting."
If the likes of Micic, Nikola Jokic and Bogdan Bogdanovic suit up for Serbia this summer, then it's going to take a very good team to stop them from going all the way and lifting the title.
