Mexico to host the FIBA U18 Americas Championship
MIAMI (United States) – The FIBA Americas Regional Office announced that the city of Tijuana, Mexico will host the FIBA U18 Americas Championship, which will take place from June 6 to 12.
MIAMI (United States) – The Americas Zone Executive Committee has decided to grant to Mexico the FIBA U18 Americas Men’s Championship. The city of Tijuana will host the event which will take place from June 6 to 12.
Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, United States and the host, Mexico will battle it out for the championship at Tijuana’s Zonkeys Auditorium.
Qualified teams join the event after playing in the CentroBasket and South American championships. The United States and Canada will be the representatives of North America.
The tournament will be played again after the last edition held in 2018, since the 2020 event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Team USA won the latest edition which was held in St. Catherines, Canada. USA has been crowned champion in the past five editions. Puerto Rico (2002) and Argentina (2008) have also won gold in the competition.
The top four teams from the FIBA U18 Americas Championship will qualify for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2023.
