MIES, Switzerland (FIBA 3x3 World Tour) – FIBA announced on Tuesday that the seventh and last Masters of the 2016 FIBA 3x3 World Tour will take place in Mexico City on 24-25 September instead of Rio de Janeiro as previously announced.
“We are delighted to bring the World Tour back to Mexico City”, event organiser Marcelo Politi said.
“The Mexico City Masters was a resounding success and there was a strong interest from fans and partners to have more 3x3 events in Mexico.”
No less than 90,000 fans followed the games at the Perisur shopping mall on 16-17 July. The event was broadcast in 118 countries and had a digital reach of 4 million people.
The event had to be relocated from its initial venue of Rio de Janeiro after the Brazilian Basketball Federation (CBB) announced it could no longer organise the event due to financial reasons.
FIBA will continue to steer the development of 3x3 in Brazil and 4 teams coming from Brazilian qualifiers will compete in Mexico City.
The event was rebranded as FIBA 3x3 World Tour Americas Masters and will be staged at the Perisur shopping mall. More information about the event can be found on the official FIBA 3x3 World Tour website.
