New club to lean on league familiars in debut

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - Amman United may be one of the newest competitors in the FIBA WASL-West Asia League but there should hardly be jitters whatsoever once they set foot on the hardwood for their maiden game.

    History

The ball club was founded in 2017 but it's only in the 2024-25 Jordanian Premier Basketball League that they finally made their debut, serving as one of three new participants in the competition.

Mentored by former Jordan national team veteran Abdallah Abuqoura, Amman United began their campaign last December 16 with an 88-62 victory over Shabab Bushra, and that proved to be the start of what has become a dominant campaign for the newcomers thus fay as they have gone undefeated after 12 games.

Soon, they will be competing in WASL-West Asia for the first time in what should be another challenging journey ahead for this crew but experience playing in the pan-regional tilt may not be much of an issue.

That's because two of Amman United's notable players such as Freddy Ibrahim and Ahmad Hamarsheh have already played in the West Asia League during the 2022-23 inaugurals with Orthodox Amman.

There, they helped the team reach the best-of-3 Qualification to Semi-Finals, which saw them drag eventual Sub-Zone League champions Al Riyadi to three games.

Aside from that bit of WASL experience coming from the seasoned pros, this squad can also rely on the established chemistry a number of their players have playing for the Falcons for a while now.

Ibrahim and Hamarsheh are playing with their Jordan men's team brothers such as Amin Abu Hawwas, Yousef Abuwazaneh, and Hashem Abbas, to name some, making this bunch truly an intriguing one.

Will they be giving the reigning WASL champions a run for their money this season? That we have to find out.
