Dragos Lungu took home the MVP award

    Dragos Lungu grabbed an additional award as Romania won the title.

    PITESTI (Romania) - Dragos Lungu of Romania took home the Most Valuable Player award at the FIBA U20 EuroBasket 2024, Division B after leading the hosts to the title in Pitesti.

    He also headlines the All-Star Five of the tournament, which also includes compatriot Denis Badalau, Daniil Sypalo of Ukraine, Viljami Vartiainen of Finland and Georgia's Giorgi Sulaberidze.

    MVP: Dragos Lungu - Romania

    Lungu was named the top player of the tournament after he carried Romania to the title and just their third appearance in the Division A following 1992 and 2018. Lungu collected 10 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in the hosts' win over Ukraine in the Final after two strong games in the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals. For the tournament the shooting guard averaged 16.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals.

    Denis Badalau - Romania

    Badalau was consistent all tournament for Romania and was a major reason the home side claimed the trophy. Badalau contributed 22 points and 6 rebounds in the Final against Ukraine and the small forward will be able to play in Division A next summer as he is two years younger as a 2006-born player. He averaged 15.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 steals for the competition.

    Daniil Sypalo - Ukraine

    Sypalo was a major reason Ukraine reached the Final as he scored 12.0 points to go with a team-high 10.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.6 blocks. The power forward tallied 10 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists in the Final loss to Romania. Ukraine will be back in Division A after being relegated in 2022.

    Viljami Vartiainen - Finland

    Vartiainen is a big reason that Finland have earned promotion back to Division A for the first time since 2016. The guard led the team in scoring with 12.9 points to go along with 4.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 steals. Vartiainen chipped in 7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in the Third Place Game.

    Giorgi Sulaberidze - Georgia

    Sulaberidze helped Georgia grab fifth place - their best showing in Division B since dropping down from the top flight in 2013. The power forward led Georgia in scoring (19.6 points per game) and rebounds (10.9 rebounds per game) and added 1.6 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.9 blocks.
