AGUADA (DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana) - Two finals in the last two years, that is the recent balance of Aguada in the main league of Uruguay, which places the team as one of the best in that country today. However, outside its borders, last year the club overcame the Group Phase of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana but only captured one victory in the Semi-Final Phase, so in this edition the team aims to improve that performance.
Aguada has debts in its domestic league, after caressing the title in consecutive seasons, in the international competition and wants to settle them. For this, the team has reinforced the squad with important players, but keeping the backbone, in the hands of coach Fernando Cabrera, who will be in command for the third year.
The new faces are guard Dwayne Davis, pivot Ricardo Glenn, Uruguayan National Team player Sebastian Izaguirre, guard Leandro Taboada and forward Federico Haller, who will only reinforce the team at the Liga Sudamericana. They will join Captain Demian Álvarez, Federico Pereiras, Joaquín Rodríguez, Federico Bavosi and Andrew Feeley, who were already with the squad.
"The difference this year to the previous ones is the knowledge of the club, of the players, the importance of the continuity of the work, of a process that has been respected, and changes have been for the better", declared the Head Coach to the website basquettotal.com.
In Group A of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana, Aguada will fight against Instituto de Córdoba (Argentina), host Franca (Brazil) and Leones de Quilpué (Chile).
The Uruguayans will lack rhythm because their local league starts on October 5, however, they participated in two preparatory tournaments with the intention of getting the greatest possible rhythm for the competition.
The first was during the first half of this month in Uruguayan soil, against Biguá and the Argentine teams of Ferro and Gimnasia Comodoro.
The other was a week ago in Chile, in Quilpue against the Leones and there the story was different: the "Aguatero" was crowned with three victories against Leones, Universidad de Concepción and Rivadabia de Mendoza (ARG), to raise morale and get positive to the appointment in Franca.
