    Day 10: Olimpia and Regatas Lima open Group D with wins

    POTOSI (DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana) – The last preliminary group of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana opened with wins for Olimpia from Paraguay and Regatas Lima from Peru.

    POTOSI (DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana) – The last preliminary group of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana opened with wins for Olimpia from Paraguay and Regatas Lima from Peru.

    Led offensively by 15 points from Javier Martinez, Olimpia from Paraguay secured its first win of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana after a 93-72 win over HR Portoviejo. Olimpia dominated from the get-go with 45% shooting from the field and a dominant rotation that included 40 points from the bench. The team from Paraguay shared the ball better with 33 assists and with 5 players scoring in double digits.

    After losing the first quarter, Regatas Lima went on to win the remaining quarter to defeat the host of Group D 74-68. Lyonell Gaines had an amazing 22-point and 19-rebound “double-double” as he led his team to an impressive win. 18 points from Makal Stibbins kept the host close, but at the end, Regatas Lima’s power on the paint led the visiting team to take the win.

    Tomorrow on the second day of Group D, Regatas Lima will face Olimpia and HR Portoviejo will face Deportivo Calero.

    The top team from Group D will close the Semi-Final Phase of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana.
