The winners will go on to play for the championship title of the continental league on March 25, and the losing teams will face off for the third place on the same day.
“It is with great satisfaction that we confirm and announce San Lorenzo as hosts of the DIRECTV Liga de las Américas 2018 Final4. We thank the four clubs for presenting their proposals and showing their interest in hosting the final stage. Your commitment is essential for the development of our sport. We are confident that the San Lorenzo organization will meet all expectations that the conclusion of the continent’s most important club competition deserves. This year, we have three Argentine clubs and one from Brazil, who have arrived here due to their sporting merits and after a great season. We hope that this will be a sports celebration for the enjoyment of all basketball lovers,” said FIBA Americas President, Mr. Usie Richards.
“We feel an immense pride in San Lorenzo that FIBA chose us as the organizers of the DIRECTV Liga de las Américas Final4 in Boedo. Of course we are very excited and thankful for this distinction, for this achievement, that speaks clearly of the great work that we have previously done as hosts. Celebrating the Final4 in our home bestows on us a greater responsibility to do it even better, and we are working on some important new features to gift to all our fans, to all our people, and to all the spectators that will be watching throughout the Americas,” said the Executive Vice-President and chief of basketball operations in San Lorenzo, Mr. Marcelo Tinelli.
Guaros de Venezuela, the current and two-time champions of DIRECTV Liga de las Américas —after lifting the competition’s trophy in the 2016 and 2017 editions— was eliminated in the Semi-Finals phase, so the 2018 edition will crown a new continental monarch.
This will be San Lorenzo’s first appearance in a DIRECTV Liga de las Américas Final4, as well as Estudiantes de Concordia’s. Mogi das Cruzes participated and took the third place in the 2016 edition, while Regatas Corrientes were champions of this continental competition on 2011.
