PONCE (DIRECTV Liga de las Americas) - The hosts of Group D of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas, Leones de Ponce announced the participation of Puerto Rican star guard Carlos Arroyo for the 2017 edition of the continental league.

"The trajectory of Carlos Arroyo speaks for itself and he is a great addition as point guard, a position we still had open after the transfer of Carlos Rivera, to the Fuerza Regia (Host of Group B). The decision to bring and hire Carlos was made as a group with the inclusion of Coach Nelson Colón and Angel Daniel Vasallo," explained the Co-Manager of the Leones de Ponce, Oscar Misla.

"The arrival of Carlos adds chemistry to the team and he adds other variants to our game-plan. His arrival makes our team a great representation of Puerto Rico for the Liga de las Americas," concluded Misla.

This will be the first time Carlos Arroyo participates in the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas, as he will add another continental tournament to an extensive resume that counts with impressive accomplishments with the Puerto Rico National Team and some participations in the National Leagues of Spain, Turkey and the NBA.

Ponce will host Group D during the Group Phase of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas from February 10-12, as the Leones receive Weber Bahía Basket (ARG), Academia La Montana (COL) and Cocodrilos de Caracas (VEN) at the Auditorio Juan “Pachin” Vicens.

In the Group Phase, the teams were divided into four (4) groups of four (4) and will play in round robin format during three (3) days. The top two teams (2) from each group will then qualify to the Semifinal Phase.

In the Semifinal Phase the eight (8) teams will be divided into two (2) groups of four (4) where they will play in a round-robin. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Final Four, where the competition champion will be determined.
