LAUSANNE (Switzerland) - Switzerland's young NBA star Kyshawn George showed his commitment to the talents in his country as he was officially announced as an Ambassador for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025, taking place in Lausanne this summer.
The 21-year-old George becomes Switzerland's second NBA player to be part of this summer's global showcase with Clint Capela already on board as an Ambassador as well.
"I hope to see you there, as I will be attending myself to support the young Swiss basketball talents," said George, who is playing his rookie season in the NBA with the Washington Wizards.
George grew up in Monthey before leaving Switzerland for France in 2019 as a 15-year-old to play with Elan Chalon. In 2023 he moved to the United States to attend the University of Miami and then was drafted with the 24th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks and traded draft night to Washington.
George played for Switzerland when he was 15 years old and played at the FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2019, Division B, averaging 2.5 points and 1.5 assists.
With George joining forces with Capela as Ambassador, fans in Switzerland will be even more excited for this summer's spectacle in Lausanne. Not only will they get to see the globe's next generation of stars but they will also get to see their two NBA stars live and in person.
The FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 will run from June 28 to July 6 in Lausanne.
