Korea - Hur Jae now coach of Koreans
Remember Hur Jae, the legendary South Korean deadshot, who was the scourge of Filipino cagers in Asian basketball tournaments? Jae is now the head coach of the South Korean national team that will see action in the William Jones Cup and the Fiba Asia Championship. A two-time Olympian (1988 Seoul and 1996 Atlanta), Jae is still the current holder for most points scored by any player in the Fiba World Championship. He scored 60 points during South Korea’s 117-115 victory over Egypt in 1990. Jae was one of two notable Koreans, who went up against Filipinos in the past, the other one being Shin Dong Pa, who became an icon during the 1960s and 1970s.

Remember Hur Jae, the legendary South Korean deadshot, who was the scourge of Filipino cagers in Asian basketball tournaments?
Jae is now the head coach of the South Korean national team that will see action in the William
Jones Cup and the Fiba Asia Championship.
Best remembered for his all-around game, Jae was a thorn to several Filipino players such as Allan Caidic, Alvin Patrimonio, Samboy Lim and Hector Calma during the 1994 Asian Games in Japan.
Alaska coach Tim Cone, who once handled the RP Centennial team in the 1998 Asian Games, didn’t have the opportunity of meeting the deadly Korean, but had the chance to watch him while he was playing overseas.
But will Jae create an impact as coach in the Fiba Asia meet? Cone doesn’t think so.
