SEOUL (KBL) - Sonic Boom KT reached an unassailable position and clinched the regular season championship as a result of their 87-67 win over Dongbu Promy, combined with Incheon Elephants's 75-72 defeat at the hands of Mobis Phoebus which ruled them out of the running.

Both Sonic Boom and Elephants have two games each left in the regular season, which concludes this weekend, but irrespective of the results, the former will remain on top of the leaderboard.

Elephants can tie their foes in the win-loss column if they win both their games while Sonic lose both of theirs. However, Sonic Boom hold a favourable 16-point advantage in the head-to-head games against Elephants. The two have won three times each in the six meetings in the Regular Season.

Regular season champions hed coach Jun Chang-jin was eager for more for his team.

“The highest number of wins in the KBL is 40. But I want to break it by winning our last two games (which will take Sonic Boom’s tally to 41 wins), which I think will be very meaningful for my boys,” he said.

Sonic Boom’s rise to prominence can be attributed to Jun’s position at the helm of affairs.

Jun took charge last year and immediately made a mark steering the team to a second place finish in the Regular Season. Till then, Sonic Boom had languished in the bottom half of the table ever since the team was founded in the 2003-04 season.
