NANJING (East Asian Championship/FIBA Asia Championship) - Korea beat Japan 89-73 in the final of the East Asian Championship on Wednesday and booked their place for the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship.
In the play-off for the third place, hosts China overwhelmed Chinese Taipei 87-53.
All four teams will participate in the FIBA Asia Championship to be held in Wuhan, China from 15 to 25 September. The home nation qualified automatically as the hosts.
Japan finished second in the 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup at Beirut last year thus earning East Asia an additional berth along with the allotted two slots.
The winner of the FIBA Asia Championship will book an automatic place for the London Games, while the teams that finish second and third will enter the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
