TOKYO (24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women) - Japan, the hosts of the 24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women in Omura-Nagasaki, lost to European giants Spain 74-54 in a friendly game played in Avila.
Kumiko Oba emerged as the surprise leader for the hosts, scoring 14 points, but it wasn't enough against the combined efforts of Alba Torrens and Ana Montanana.
Torrens accounted for 16 points and Montanana added 13, with Lucila Pascua contributing 10 points for Spain, who are preparing for EuroBasket Women to be held in Poland from 18 June to 3 July. The winners of the tournament qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.
The winners of the 24th FIBA Asia Championship for Women - taking place between 21 and 28 August - also qualify directly for the London Games with second and third place teams earning berths for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying tournament for Women.
