    ITA - Biella shock Siena to let in Bologna

    ROME (Lega A) - Lega A leaders Montepaschi Siena slumped to an unexpected defeat on Sunday, losing 74-72 at Angelico Biella and allowing VidVici Bologna to join them at the summit. The shock defeat came on the weekend where the Tuscany outfit had been hoping to extend their lead. Instead Biella created perhaps the upset of the season with Pascal Roller scoring the game-winning basket with 14 seconds left on the clock

    ROME (Lega A) - Lega A leaders Montepaschi Siena slumped to an unexpected defeat on Sunday, losing 74-72 at Angelico Biella and allowing VidVici Bologna to join them at the summit.

    The shock defeat came on the weekend where the Tuscany outfit had been hoping to extend their lead.

    Instead Biella created perhaps the upset of the season with Pascal Roller scoring the game-winning basket with 14 seconds left on the clock.

    Early in the third quarter, Siena had established an 11-point lead but Biella proved determined even though they still trailed by six with three minutes to play.

    Reece Gaines was the hero for Biella with 21 points and seven rebounds.

    That result meant that the victor of the evening match between VidiVici and Armani Jeans

    Milano would join Siena on top and it was the Bologna club that prevailed 83-73.

    Bennett Davison was top scorer with 25 points for the victors who always had something in reserve with Davision spending all of the third quarter on the bench.

    Whirlpool Varese pulled off a 76-63 win at the expense of Snaidero Udine.

    Keith Carter top scored with 17 points for Whirlpool, who are coached by Argentina’s Olympic gold medal-winning coach Ruben Magnano, but Delonte Holland’s 15 points and joint game-high eight rebounds were also crucial.

    Varese trailed 30-29 at the halfway point but had established a nine-point lead at the end of the third quarter and never looked back.

    Upea Capo d’Orlando pulled off a 66-63 win over Eldo Napoli after trailing 63-62 with 1:15 remaining.

    It was the free throws of Alvin Young that would seal the victory for Capo d’Orlando, also ensuring he would finish as top scorer with 16.

    TiSettanta Cantu needed overtime to overcome Climamio Bologna 93-90 to leave beaten Fortitudo with a 4-6 record.

    Michael Jordan was in excellent form for Cantu with a game-high 29 points with Casey Shaw pouring in 17. Also pivotal to the effort was Lamayn Wilson who added 13 boards to his 17-point haul.

    Jordan managed only three from eight inside the arc but from outside he made five from eight three-pointers while he added eight from 10 from the charity stripe.

    For Fortitudo, Marco Belinelli impressed in a losing cause with 24 points.

    Siviglia Wear Teramo blew away TDShop.it Livorno 99-70 with most of the hard work done in the first two quarters with Teramo first establishing a 31-17 lead and then moving to 55-30. Paul McPherson’s 22 points were in vain for Livorno.

    Lottomatica Roma came from behind to see of hosts Legea Scafati 81-74 in overtime. Having lost the first quarter 20-13, the Eternal City club pulled level to 27-27 at the halfway point.

    Scafati should have won but Jack Martinez missed two free throws two seconds from the end of normal time, to leave the game tied at 65-65.

    David Hawkins took the individual plaudits with 28 points for Roma.

    Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia eclipsed Premiata Montegranaro 83-76 with Ronald Slay registering 33 points and 11 rebounds in a losing cause.

    Ramel Curry’s game high 28 points were equally in vain for Air Avellino who lost 92-70 to Benetton Treviso. Benetton boss David Blatt gave youngsters Roberto Rullo, aged 16, and Gino Cuccarolo, 19, a chance and both scored their first Lega A points.
