    Iran - Iran NBA star Haddadi out of Games

    Memphis Grizzlies center Hamed Haddadi has been ruled out of the Asian Games after the NBA team refused to release him, Iran coach said Veselin Matic revealed Monday. Haddadi scored 19 points and snared 17 rebounds as Iran drubbed the Chinese 70-52 to win the 2009 Asian basketball championship in China and his absence is a big blow for his team here.

    “We tried everything to have him with us but he is under contract,” Matic said.

    “But we are here to show we are the Asian champions and we’ll do it.”
