    Greek legend Spanoulis to hand MVP award in Cairo

    CAIRO (Egypt) - Greek legend Vasilis Spanoulis will attend the FIBA Intercontinental Cup final in the Egyptian capital on Sunday and hand the tournament MVP trophy to the winner of the award.

    CAIRO (Egypt) - Greek legend Vasilis Spanoulis will attend the FIBA Intercontinental Cup final in the Egyptian capital on Sunday and hand the tournament MVP trophy to the winner of the award.

    The recently retired Spanoulis was himself a winner of the MVP award in 2013, when he led Olympiacos to the Intercontinental Cup trophy conquest. The reds of Piraeus defeated Brazil's Pinheiros Sky over a two-leg final, with the Greek guard scoring 18 points in a 81-70 road win in the return leg.

     

    The vast trophy case of the former Olympiacos captain also includes, among others, the FIBA EuroBasket 2005 gold medal,  the 2009 bronze from the same competition, one FIBA Basketball World Cup silver medal and three Euroleague titles as well a numerous individual honors.

    Basketball Champions League champions Hereda San Pablo Burgos take on Basketball Champions League Americas champions in the Final on Sunday, as the Spanish club look to defend their Intercontinental Cup title and the Brazilian side aim to recapture the trophy they won in 2014.

    The FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2022 MVP will be named following a vote by the accredited media at the event.
