Port Moresby (PAPUA NEW GUINEA) - Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) continued the expansion of their Hoops For Health program with a 3x3 clinic held at the Walapape Village in the Southern Island of Papua New Guinea.

BFPNG volunteer coach Betty Angula spearheaded the clinic to introduce 3x3 basketball in the Walapape village.

"We were able to organize a clinic in Walapape because Betty is currently residing there at the moment, so we thought it would be beneficial for her to run a clinic in her community," said BFPNG Chief Executive Officer, Nick Daroa.

Angula through the program design of their Hoops For Health strategy focused on introducing 3x3 to the women and children of the community in two separate sessions.

"It has always been my motivation to share the game of basketball to the women and children in my community and this has been a great project from BFPNG for us to be able to reach small communities like the Walapape village," said Angula.

"It was a great feeling to see the women and children play the game have provided a sense of belonging to the game," she added.

BFPNG's Hoops For Health is a program is designed to introduce the sport in the grassroots level, the program is supported by the Australian Aid and FIBA.

Daroa commended the program and is hoping they can reach more communities outside of Port Moresby in 2020.

"There is a lot of potential in basketball not only at the elite level but to grassroots and also to women in basketball. Our job is to reach more communities and develop all facets of basketball in the country," Daroa proudly stated.
