GERMANY (men)
The high-flying Germans displayed their intensity and fast-paced offense on day 1 as they picked up key wins in their campaign.
Fabian Giessmann led the charge in the opener against New Zealand as his 10 points proved to be the difference maker. His efforts on both ends of the floor led the Germans to a 21-11 victory.
They pulled out all the stops in their game against Israel as the team produced a highlight galore. Giessmann’s 9 points once again was a team-high score as Germany won 21-10 against Israel.

Other teams to go unbeaten on the day would be France, Spain and Argentina who put themselves in a comfortable position as pool play continues.
GERMANY (women)
An efficient and incisive Germany boasted their dominant ways on day 1 as they 2-0.
Starting off with a 21-11 victory over Israel, Olympic gold medalist Elisa Mevius led the way for the team with 7 points. It was a fairly even scoring contribution from the team as they collectively handled business in the opener.

It was Laura Zolper who shone in their game against Mongolia as she picked up 7 points in the 20-15 win.
On the women’s side, Poland, Ukraine and Hungary also went unbeaten, solidifying their spot in the pool.

German star Fabian Giessmann was doing everything! His contributions on the defensive end with crucial blocks were overshadowed only by his elite offensive skill. His control on the game paved the way for a dominant German showing on day 1.

Poland’s Julia Bazan was an offensive machine. Her 16-point outburst over the two games were pivotal. Her efficient way to carve through defenses took Poland to a perfect start to pool play.
