BEIRUT (Lebanon) - A Game Officials workshop was held in Indonesia as part of the FIBA Regional Office - Asia’s commitment to improving the various aspects of the game.
Up to 28 national referees, both male and female, took part in the three-day workshop (from 11-13 December) in Jakarta where they were able to get a better understanding on how to improve their level of officiating.
Danny Kosasih, president of Persatuan Bola Basket Seluruh Indonesia (PERBASI) said : "Improving the quality of Indonesian national referees is one of PERBASI’s big homework as the National Federation."
"A good quality of referees will make the competitions even better and good competitions will also improve the quality of every game and the performance of athletes on the court."
"All of these things are sustainable, and hopefully that this Game Officials clinic can add more knowledges and abilities to our referees in leading every game they officiate in the future."

During the course of the clinic, all participants went through rigorous assessment of skills as part of an important evaluation exercise to identify those referees with the most potential. On-court practical sessions were also organized to help the participants understand the tasks at hand to help them become FIBA licensed referees and understand how to tackle challenges during the games.
"This Game Officials clinic should be a starting point of the National Referee’s improvements, hopefully all the FIBA Indonesian licensed and A Licensed Referees can transfer what they got from the clinic to their colleagues in B and C License," said Nirmala Dewi, secretary general of PERBASI.
"Indonesia Basketball will be better in the future with the referees willing to upgrade their officiating and communication skills.
