Game officials clinic in Cambodia 'a right step in the right direction'

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - A Game Officials workshop was held in Cambodia last week as part of the FIBA Regional Office - Asia’s commitment to improving all aspects of the game.

A total of 24 participants national referees, both male and female, took part in the three-day workshop (from 13-15 September) where they were able to get a better understanding and improve their level of officiating.

“One of Cambodia Basketball Federation (CBF) development objectives is the better education of its referees. Our aim is to have top qualified referees at the national level that are dedicated to the game, said Austin Koledoye, the CBF Secretary General. 

“CBF carefully selected young referees that will be learning the art of officiating and developing over the years, so it is very encouraging to see them put in a lot of energy into learning during this intense three-day clinic.”

During the course of the clinic, all participants went through rigorous assessment of skills as part of an important evaluation exercise to identify those referees with the most potential. On-court practical sessions were also organized to help the participants understand the tasks at hand to help them become FIBA licensed referees and understand how to tackle challenges during the games.

“I am very excited to see young referees’ aspiration to improve their level of officiating. This is right step in the right direction by CBF to nurture young referees for the development of the game of basketball in Cambodia,” said Pisey Khourn, a FIBA Referee who participated in the workshop.
