BOURGES (France) - Yet another rising star of the FIBA women's game has made everyone sit up and take notice after 17-year-old Alicia Tournebize showcased her potential with her second spectacular dunk.
The center was balling for her Tango Bourges Basket U18 side this past weekend when she threw one down in transition for what was her second dunk in an official game. Tournebize had previously become the first French female player to have dunked when she completed the feat last September in the NF2 league (4th French division) for Espoirs de Bourges - a few weeks before fellow young gun Dominique Malonga received plaudits for her throw-down with LDLC ASVEL Feminin.
Almost five months later, Tournebize pressed the replay button and this time had the benefit of video evidence highlighting her stellar play. The daughter of former French standout, FIBA of Famer class of 2020 Isabelle Fijalkowski, there's no doubt that with her height, skills and imposing athletic abilities, Tournebize is highly-rated and destined to become a senior star.
Crowned MVP of the 2023 edition of the U18 Coupe De France - despite being only 15-years-old at the time, Tournebize made a breakthrough at the international level last year when she featured at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup in Mexico. She has since had the thrill of making her EuroLeague Women debut when she took to the court in the competition for the first time last November when Bourges faced Olympiacos. Now all eyes will be on Tournebize to see her what her next international mission will be - whether at the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket 2025 or maybe even the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2025.
