PORTLAND (NBA/Olympics) - Nicolas Batum is breathing a sigh of relief along with everyone in French basketball after being told he did not suffer a serious knee injury during Monday night's game at Utah.

A magnetic imaging resolution (MRI) on the 23-year-old's left knee showed he only has a bone contusion.

Batum is now listed as day-to-day, according to coach Nate McMillan.

He will not play on Wednesday night against the Charlotte Bobcats.

All that matters right now for Batum, the Trail Blazers and France is that the exciting shooting guard/small forward is not facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Batum says he had feared the worst.

"I came home and saw the video, different angles, I was like 'I'm done for the season maybe'."

After getting the results of the MRI, though, Batum said: "I was so happy after that."

Batum is only several months away from making his Olympic bow in London.

"That was my main goal, my purpose," Batum said.

"I was thinking I'm going to miss the Olympics."

Batum played a major role for France at last year's EuroBasket in Lithuania, helping them reach the Final to earn a spot in the London Games.
