FRA - Sustainable and inter-cultural animations for all at celebration of basketball

TOULOUSE/RODEZ (2010 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women) - The FIBA U17 World Championship for Women will be held from 16th to 25th July in Toulouse (Palais des Sports André Brouat) and Rodez (Amphitheatre).

To mark the occasion, the values of exchange and respect that are usually associated with sport in general - and basketball in particular - will be highlighted as part of a varied entertainment programme.

A celebration of cultures
As a celebration of basketball, this tournament, the first for this age group, will bring together a total of 12 national teams - and their supporters - coming from five continents.
Each and every one of these cultures will be honoured over the course of what is expected to be a highly competitive tournament, allowing all on hand to discover new horizons and make new friends in the process!

Animations by folkloric groups will take place before, during and after the games. There will also be exhibitions and dedicated stands in the basketball villages. A "Bodega meal" with flavours from all five continents will top things off.

Exhibition - "Countries, Sports, Women…"
The 'Media Pitchounes' association, which is a partner of the event, will prepare three fact boards on the topic of 'Women in Sport' in several countries, relating in particular to the practice of basketball. An exhibition of a chosen delegation will take place over the course of a chosen game. Children will be this team's official supporters for that particular game and will get a chance to have their pictures taken with them

Two basketball villages with bodegas and restaurants
Partner stands, animations, world boutique, open from 11am until 11pm.

An in-depth look at sustainability on dedicated days
Several days will be dedicated to the theme of sustainability throughout the event thanks to the Agenda 21 - Sport and Sustainable Development label which the French National Olympic Committee (CNOSF) received for organising this tournament. There will be activities targeted at children as well as conferences, debates and workshops. These will all take place between 11:00 and 14:30 at the Petit Palais des Sports in Toulouse, just before games that have a 15:00 tip-off time.

Theme days
During the tournament, six days will be dedicated to key themes of the events with activities for children, lectures, debates, workshops…etc
