DAKAR (Senegal) - Day One of the Women's Basketball League Africa (WBLA) witnessed close clashes as home side ASC Ville de Dakar and defending champions Alexandria Sporting Club picked wins over Cameroon's FAP and Ivorians Friends Basketball Association (FBA) respectively.
We take a look into some of the top performers of the day here;
Hala Elshaarawy
The Alexandria Sporting Club forward, commonly known as Hala Mostafa, stateside, registered one of only two double-doubles of the day In just under 29 minutes on the floor.
The former Saint Peter's University star shot 6 of 9, including a three-pointer to finish with 19 points while crashing the boards with 11 rebounds to ensure the holders started their campaign on a winning note (65-49).
In the process, Elshaarawy registered the opening day's highest efficiency rating (24).
Elisabeth Dabou
The Malian international led the charge for home side, ASC Ville de Dakar in their comeback win (57-54) over Cameroon's FAP
Dabou scored 13 points and finished a rebound shy of a double-double in just under 30 minutes on the floor.
She added three steals, a block and an assist for 13 in efficiency.
Foune Sissoko
Another Malian that sparked hosts ASC Ville de Dakar in the hard-fought victory over FAP was Foune Sissoko who contributed 13 points in just over 30 minutes on the floor.
Nine of her 13 points came in the last quarter that her side dominated 19-16 to win a match they led for only 4.20 minutes.
Kristen Spolyar
Turning out for the holders Alexandria Sporting Club, the American was the only other player to hit double digits on points for the Egyptians with 12, adding five assists to her tally.
