    Five women among participants in Philippines Game officials clinic

    The participants underwent sessions in theory as well as practical training

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) – The FIBA Regional Office-Asia recently conducted a game officials clinic in Manila, Philippines lasting three days. The three day (Jan 21-23) clinic organized by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (the National Federation of the Philippines) saw 32 game officials, including five women participating.

    The participants underwent sessions in theory as well as practical training. In the theory sessions, they were taken through topics ranging from Rules and Interpretation to Modern Officiating Techniques. In the practical sessions they were trained in subjects such as IOT, 3PO and Mechanics.

    “The Game Officials Clinic is essential to the development of basketball in our country,” said SBP Executive Director Ms. Erika Caitlin Dy.

    “What our participants will learn from this workshop, will be carried forward with them teaching other game officials all over the country. We thank the FIBA Regional Office –Asia for the support in developing officiating in the Philippines,” she added.

    "The Game Officials Clinic is essential in promoting the 'train the trainers' concept of learning,” averred Ferdinand "Bong" Pascual, Head - Referees Program of the SBP Technical Academy.

    “By equipping top-level referees with the knowledge and skills to mentor others, the clinic creates a ripple effect that raises the standards of officiating across all levels. This approach ensures sustainable growth and continuous improvement in basketball officiating,” he added.

    “With more than 10,000 referees across the Philippines, the Game Officials Clinic plays a vital role in developing our basketball frontliners,” said Andrew Teh, Head - SBP Technical Academy.

    “These clinics not only elevate the standards of officiating but also ensure the integrity of the game we love. We deeply appreciate the unwavering support of the FIBA ASIA - Regional Office, which continues to help us achieve excellence in basketball officiating,” he added.
