MIES (Switzerland) - The Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies has successfully witnessed the first class of 2022 who have passed the test to become certified FIBA licensed agents.
In what was the opening tranche of the new calendar year, 19 candidates passed the requirements, with a total of 15 different nationalities represented within the group of applicants. There were also three former professional players.
The licensing program is also linked to one of FIBA's strategic priorities to 'Enlarge the FIBA Family' where there is an active focus on existing programs, but also a desire to implement various actions and projects that will increase the number of licensed participants, including player agents.
Meanwhile those who passed the exam also had to take into account the recent changes to agent regulations which are now in force. Agent information is available on the FIBA website and the new procedures are covered in Chapter 9 of the FIBA Internal Regulations - Book 3.
As always, the newly qualified agents were able to look around the the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball and the Naismith Arena as well as taking the test and were all looking forward to turning a new page in their respective careers - either immediately or at a later date.
"I think being an agent is a very important part of the basketball business, even if sometimes many people don't recognize the value that it has," said Spaniard, Roi Rodriguez Lopez.
"But it continues to be important that we can be there in the middle between teams and the clients to give good advice for their careers. It is a service that must be here and provided to players."
Fellow participant Erdem Uygur added: "I am working as a team manager in Turkey at the moment but am very happy to have the opportunity today to explore other activities if I decide to change lanes in the future.
"I am looking forward to possibly being able to reach beyond Turkey in basketball through being an agent and that is important to me. I also know from my team manager role that I can bring a different perspective having seen both sides - from the clubs and the players,"
