FIBA is proud to announce it has maintained its International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 20121 certification

MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA is proud to announce it has maintained its International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 20121 certification for a third consecutive year, reinforcing its commitment to hosting sustainable 3x3 basketball events.

Having first obtained ISO 20121 recognition in 2022, a globally recognized standard developed by the ISO, this continued certification, awarded by BSI (British Standards Institution), underlines FIBA's dedication to embedding sustainability at the heart of its organisational strategy.

BSI's annual external assessment confirmed the successful implementation of sustainability initiatives across the FIBA 3x3 World Tour and FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup events. Moreover, this year’s assessment praised FIBA for its ongoing use of reusable structures and temporary venues, and 3x3 basketball’s continued efforts to leave a lasting impact on the communities hosting events, promoting healthy and sustainable lifestyles among young people.

"We are determined to ensure all major FIBA 3x3 events are delivered sustainably and with minimal impact on the environment,” said Alex Sanchez, 3x3 Managing Director. “We are therefore very proud that our efforts have been recognized and we have received this prestigious certification for the third year running. As 3x3 continues to grow internationally we are committed to further enhancing our sustainable practices and ensuring that we have a positive local impact with the communities who host us.”

“Huge congratulations to FIBA for achieving this certification, which demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to promoting sustainability across basketball and its impacted communities,” said Murray Sayce, Global Head of Assurance Sustainability Solutions.

FIBA will once again implement a series of sustainable initiatives during the upcoming FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2025, which gets underway on 26–30 March. Players, officials, and volunteers will be issued EZ-Link cards to travel using public transportation. Moreover, the workforce will be provided with meal vouchers, and the teams will have their meals at the hotel, helping to reduce the overall food wastage incurred and the amount of disposable plastics used. In addition, all plastic bottles will have designated bins to be collected and recycled by Sembcorp at the end of competition.
