FIBA referees gear up for Continental Cup Qualifiers with help of webinars

MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA always strives for basketball games to have the highest level of officiating possible, so preparing referees for and keeping them up to date on rule changes is essential.

FIBA Officials have been getting ready for the upcoming Continental Cup Qualifiers that are about to be staged at the end of this month by taking part in a series of webinars conducted by FIBA Referee Operations.

Elite Program referees and the FIBA Instructors of Level 2 participated in the series of five webinars. They listened to speakers from different regions offer their insight on topics related to fitness, officiating techniques and the Instant Replay System. A particular focus was placed on new rules, with referees encouraged to ask practical questions throughout the webinar series.

Webinars have proved to be an excellent way to prepare game officials for on-court action, and over the past months, numerous webinars have been conducted by FIBA Referee Operations and been made available. Consistency in decisions on the hardwood throughout the world is essential and it has been vital, as well, to keep referees active while there are less games than usual.

The referees will next be in action at the FIBA Continental Cup Qualifiers in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe starting Wednesday.
