MIAMI (United States) - The FIBA Regional Office in the Americas has initiated new efforts to facilitate the training of national federation coaches. To begin this program, two coaches from the Argentina Basketball Confederation (CAB) will visit the University of Colorado (United States) between November 10 and 15.
Rocío Pérez and Mariano Marcos, members of the national technical bodies of CAB, will be the first group to participate in the training program in Boulder, Colorado where they will join the University's coaching staff and learn the how they run their programs on and off the court.
The University of Colorado Boulder is one of 36 public research institutions in the United States, as a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), a group of institutions recognized as the leading research universities. Both men’s and women’s basketball teams, the Colorado Buffaloes, compete in the NCAA Division I Pac-12 Conference.
"FIBA Americas is conducting a Pilot Program this week with the goal of improving connections between coaches within the Americas coaching community. Two national team coaches from the Argentina Basketball Federation are visiting with the coaches at the University of Colorado (Boulder) to observe and interact with the Colorado coaches as the team prepares for practices and games, and then implements those preparations during games. The idea is that the conversation will strengthen and enhance the coaching community in the Americas," said FIBA in the Americas President Carol Callan.
Fabian Borro, the president of the Argentine Basketball Confederation (CAB), said "We want to especially thank the FIBA Regional Office in the Americas, President Carol Callan and Executive Director Carlos Alves. This valuable experience will allow the coaches to learn from within one of the most prestigious universities in the United States and then transfer that knowledge to our national federation."
This joint initiative between the FIBA Regional Office in the Americas, the Argentine Basketball Confederation and the University of Colorado will be extended to other national federations in the Americas soon.
