FIBA Open Celebrates a Decade of Success on Its 10th Anniversary

MIES (Switzerland) – Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the FIBA Open set a new record with more than 300 teams and over 4000 visitors in attendance.

From June 15 to 16, the FIBA Open 2024 took place at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball - celebrating a decade of success, memories, and Basketball For Good. Established in 2015 to open the doors of the FIBA Headquarters to the local community, the FIBA Open has grown to be one of the largest 3x3 tournaments in the World.

The 300 registration mark was reached for the first time, with 308 teams divided into 18 categories, going from mini basketball to over 40, giving anyone the chance to play.

With inclusivity as one of the focal points of the FIBA Open, the tournament welcomed  11 Special Olympics and 4 wheelchair teams to compete on one of the 11 courts.

An additional Mini Basketball court was added to introduce the game to the younger ones. In total, 28 children participated in the 6 Mini Basketball initiations held throughout the weekend. 

On the occasion of the 10th edition of the FIBA Open, a new exhibition was launched at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball. Named "From the Court to the Big Screen," this exposition highlights the history of basketball in cinema. Various other activities were organized on-site to entertain the participants and visitors.

For the second consecutive year, the FIBA Foundation European Youth Leadership Seminar was organized parallel to the FIBA Open. 15 Youth Leaders took part in a 3-day workshop before supporting the organization of the tournament, while bringing a touch of "Basketball For Good".

For the very first time, a Basketball For Good corner was present at the event. This addition aimed to shed light on the worldwide work of the FIBA Foundation, the organizer of the event. Among the Youth Leaders in charge of this corner, Alticious Links came from Namibia to promote the Basketball Artists School (BAS). The profit raised from the weekend of the FIBA Open will go toward further supporting BAS' activities.
