DURRES (Albania) - The traditional FIBA Europe U14 Get-Together enjoyed a successful return after taking place in Durres, Albania.
Hosted by the Albanian Basketball Federation as part of the program to commemorate its 75th anniversary, the 2022 event welcomed a total of 96 participants from 27 different nations, including 50 local youth coaches, who had the chance to learn from FIBA instructors.
The coaching clinics were held at the Goga Basketball Academy with specific on-court sessions for the local coaches and international participants led by Nenad Trunic and Arik Shivek.
The activities for local youth coaches featured a sample of an U14 practice and also also focused on the methodology and specific drills for teaching and improving shooting.
Meanwhile, the program for international participants included sessions on one-on-one and transition defense; improvement of decision making through specific skills; and developing young guards. The participants also took part in a panel discussion featuring the FIBA instructors and took on the topic of safeguarding in youth basketball.
FIBA Europe President Turgay Demirel and FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak were in attendance alongside a number of distinguished guests from the Albanian Basketball Federation.
The autumn meeting of the FIBA Europe Youth Commission was also concurrently held in Albania.
"The U14 Get-Together is instrumental in FIBA Europe's efforts to raise the qualification of coaches who work with youth players," said Mr. Novak.
"Developing the next generation of talents and levelling up the game remains among our key strategic objectives and events like this play a big part in laying the foundation for the future success of the sport in Europe."
The previous edition of the event took place in Prague, Czech Republic in 2019.
