MIES (Switzerland) – The most successful FIBA Basketball World Cup in history has provided the inspiration for FIBA's German broadcast partner, Deutsche Telekom, to claim the honor of the 'Best Sports Broadcast' at the prestigious German TV Awards based on coverage of the event by its MagentaTV and MagentaSport brands.

The historic 2023 edition, which was played across three different countries for the first time in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan, was widely recognized and set record-breaking highs for attendance, digital engagement, and broadcast coverage.

It also provided Germany with one of its greatest sporting moments. Led by TISSOT MVP Denis Schroder, they beat Serbia 83-77 in a thrilling title game to get their hands on the coveted Naismith Trophy for the first time on a famous night in Manila.

Overall, there were 92 live games on three channels, with 2.8 million viewers viewing the Semi-Final between Germany and the USA at its peak. With the event capturing the imagination of fans, a staggering 10 million people watched the flagship tournament across the nation.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 coverage from MagentaTV and MagentaSport certainly impressed the awards jury in Cologne. They expressed their recognition of the outstanding programs that were broadcast as well as individual journalistic and artistic achievements.

Mirroring the staggering digital success across FIBA's own platforms, MagentaSport secured more than 110 million hits on social channels, 50 million video hits and 4 million engagements. This also included a reaction show on TikTok.

FIBA basketball will be prominent on MagentaSport across the coming twelve months with comprehensive coverage of both the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 and FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025 - as well as other top games of the German men's and women's national teams live. This includes the upcoming double-header against Sweden in the second window of the FIBA EuroBasket Qualifiers 2025.
