    FIBA announces the launch of West Asia Super League (WASL)

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - FIBA today has announced the launch of the new pan-regional league for the top professional clubs from West Asia, Gulf, India, and Kazakhstan, which will tip-off in December 2022.

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - FIBA today has announced the launch of the new pan-regional league for the top professional clubs from West Asia, Gulf, India, and Kazakhstan, which will tip-off in December 2022.

    The West Asia Super League (WASL) will stage top clubs from sixteen countries, representing four out of the six Sub-Zones in the FIBA Asia Region. Fourteen champion clubs and a total of eighteen clubs from West Asia, Gulf, India and Kazakhstan, will compete in weekly-basis games, during the WASL Sub-Zone Group Stage and the Final Eight. 

    The best two clubs of WASL will qualify to compete in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2023, on the road to the Intercontinental Cup, FIBA’s highest club competition.

    The first ever West Asia Super League (WASL) will inaugurate its competition, exceptionally this year, as of December 19th, 2022 and will conclude in May of 2023. From the 2023-2024 season forward, WASL will have an eight-month span, which will be begin in October and conclude in May.

    FIBA, with the support and expertise from WASL’s exclusive commercial partner – eVulpa, has as its main goal to contribute in raising the standard and further developing the game of basketball in Asia.

    “West Asia Super League is expected to significantly raise the standards of club competitions in the region, and eventually support the development of National Teams in Asia. The continuous support from National Federations of the four Sub-Zones in the region, has been tremendous. Numerous meetings throughout the past year, involving all relevant stakeholders of this project, have set the grounds for a very promising and exciting new League”, said FIBA Executive Director – Asia, Mr. Hagop Khajirian
