MIAMI (United States) – On Wednesday, March 26, in the city of Miami, United States, the official draw for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 was held, determining the groups for the competition, which will take place in Nicaragua from August 22 to 31. The event also featured special guests, including Hall of Famer Tim Hardaway (United States), along with former players Gary Forbes (Panama), Andrés Pelussi (Argentina), Greivis Vásquez (Venezuela), Joel Anthony (Canada), and Omar Quintero (current head coach of the Mexican national team), as well as rising prospect Norchad Omier (Nicaragua). Before the draw, the 12 national teams were divided into four pots, each containing three spheres, based on the current FIBA Men's World Ranking presented by Nike. Additionally, three extra pots, each containing numbers 1 to 4, were used to determine the position of each team within their group and the order of games. The teams were drawn into one of the following groups: Group A, Group B, or Group C. Each group could have a maximum of two teams from CONCENCABA or CONSUBASQUET. Nicaragua, as the host nation, was automatically placed in Group C. The United States and Canada, as the top-ranked teams, were assigned to Group A and Group B, respectively. The remaining teams were drawn and placed into Group A, Group B, or Group C.
During the Group Phase of the competition, each team will play one game against all other teams within its group. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the Quarter-Finals. The eight teams advancing to the Quarter-Finals will be ranked from 1 to 8 based on their final position in the Group Phase. The Quarter-Finals winners will then advance to the Semifinals round where they would compete for a spot into the Gold Medal game, while the losing teams will play for the Bronze Medal. Argentina is the reigning champion, having won the title in Brazil 2022. This will be the 20th edition of the FIBA AmeriCup.
