    FIBA AMERICAS CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, WOMEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
This team is lead by its back court especially the point guard. Point dictates everything on offensive end and does good job scoring and getting the ball to others. Can score in a variety of ways and make good use of high/low alignment. Will force the tempo with their defense and can score off turnovers. Competitive and consistent team.

    TRANSITION
Transition game provides many open three point attempts by wing players. When available, wings run hard up floor and prepare to shoot off point guards penetration. Transition occurs after steals and long rebounds, but provides only small percentage of team's offense.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Point guard is leader and handles ball a majority of the time. Other players do good job of spacing and spotting up for scoring opportunities and open shots. High/low game is part of their spread motion offense. Will mix in set plays with this half court attack. Start in 1-4 set frequently with multiple options after entry pass to wing or posts. Posts can score and are good passers out of the block area, especially to weak side spot up shooters.

    SET PLAYS
    1. High post entry and basket cut by point guard. Screen down on weak side to free shooter.
    2. Wings cut to switch sides of floor, ball reversal, high/low pass to post for score.
    3. Single on ball screen, screener dives to rim, opposite post to high post for high/low pass.
    4. Wing entry, passer cuts through lane, 4 out/1 in set, pass to low post for score.
    5. Corner cut, ball reversal, on ball screen and drive to paint for shot.

    OB PLAYS
Use a variety of alignments in their baseline OB series. One is a stack with an up screen for post cutting to the ball followed by screen the screener action. From that alignment there are several other actions available. The box set is used to free shooters as screener rolls to the ball after screening.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Combination defenses keep the offense guessing and off balance. A good mixture of man to man and half court 1-3-1 trapping zone make them good defensively. Will trap the ball in both man to man and zone in corners, sidelines, or when facing on ball screening plays. Aggressive and always looking for a chance to pressure and influence the ball.
