    FIBA AMERICAS CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, WOMEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Sound team on both ends with an emphasis on defense. Defensive pressure and relentless pursuit of the ball make this team very competitive. Every basket by the opponent is earned. Defensive pressure and rotation is the anchor of this team. Offensively, the high/low attack is consistent and effective. Posts and perimeter players can all score, pass, and space the floor, making them hard to guard.

    TRANSITION
Transition game is based on spacing and penetration. Opportunities will come from rebounds and steals, but accounts for small percentage of offensive output. Once ball is advanced, it is reversed by three of four players with single post inside. If no drive or shot materialized they flow into offensive set or motion.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Offensive attack comes from 3 out/2 in high/low alignment. The priority of this offense is to get the ball to the high and low post every possession. Ball can be entered from the wing or from the high post. Both posts are efficient scorers in the paint and high post and pass the ball well. High post player can set on ball screens, shoot open shot, or reverse ball. When post players attract defenders, ball is passed back to perimeter for shot or penetration.

    SET PLAYS
    1. Wing entry, ball reversal, high post flash, high/low pass for lay up.
    2. Wing dribble entry, post down screen for perimeter, reversal, high/low pass for lay up.
    3. Double high on ball screens, screener dives to rim as other post catches in high post and passes to low post for shot.
    4. Wing entry from point, UCLA cut and step back, penetration and shot.

    OB PLAYS
OB plays come from several different sets; box set, 4 across free throw line, and stack on ball side lane line. Players split and cut into open areas followed by screening action for a shot.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Excellent defensive team due to relentless pursuit of the ball and aggressive pressure on the ball. Will pick up man to man in the full court to cause turnovers and speed game up. In half court, good weak side activity and rotation force turnovers and alter shots. Very disruptive on defensive end of the floor, showing great energy and hustle.
