FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2025 champions sustainability initiatives

Building on the success of previous initiatives, the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2025 continued to prioritise the event’s carbon footprint

The eighth edition of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2025, and fourth consecutive in Singapore, concluded at the Singapore Sport Hub last weekend, continued to champion sustainability efforts and set new standards for the world’s fastest growing urban team sport.

Building on the success of previous initiatives, the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2025 continued to prioritise the event’s carbon footprint and introducing a series of eco-friendly initiatives for players and fans alike.

This year’s event saw 100% of fans use public transport to reach the venue. Pre-loaded EZ-Link cards were given to coaches, National Federations, players, volunteers, officials, and media – with almost 1,000 issued in total. This initiative significantly reduced reliance on private vehicles, minimising carbon emissions, a testament to the event's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

"We are incredibly grateful to Singapore and all the partners for putting sustainability at the heart of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2025,” said FIBA 3x3 Managing Director Alex Sanchez. “These collaborative efforts with hosts ensure 3x3 basketball events leave a lasting community impact and inspire future generations of young sports fans to set new standards.”

At the Singapore Sport Hub’s OCBC Square, which saw 7,000 spectators create an electrifying urban festival atmosphere across the five days of competition, water dispensers were placed throughout the site to prevent the use of single-use plastic bottles. Meanwhile, LED boards were used around the field of play to minimise energy consumption. Food court offered sustainable food options, prioritising locally sourced food served in biodegradable ware, thereby reducing transport emissions and the carbon footprint.

Key to the success of this year’s FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2025 was the collaboration with local partners. KASM partnered with reXtore, a Singapore-based company specialising in eco-friendly and reusable materials. reXtore's innovative Staxx modular block system, crafted from ocean-bound plastic, was used to construct a section of spectator seating, the mixed zone, and lounge furniture. Moreover, these materials were repurposed from merchandise booths at a previous tennis event.

In March, FIBA maintained its International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 20121 certification for a third consecutive year, reinforcing its commitment to hosting sustainable 3x3 basketball events.
