Scottie Thompson edges out Yuta Watanabe as Player of the Year (Men) 2022

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - Who do you think has been the Player of the Year (Men) in 2022?

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - 2022 has been quite a year for basketball in Asia. We’re taking the time to celebrate some of the best in Asia over the past year and letting you decide in a FAN VOTE which stands out the most.

We started off by celebrating some of the best young men’s basketball players where Kai Sotto was voted the Young Player of the Year (Men) by the fans. Then, the fans voted Kristan Yumul as the Young Player of the Year (Women). The Play of the Year was then voted to be Wang Siyu's clutch free-throws against Australia in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Semi-Finals. Those free-throws were part of China's historic win at the Women's World Cup, which was then later voted as the Moment of the Year.

While a member of that China national team was later voted by the fans as the Player of the Year (Women) 2022, it was not Wang Siyu but instead Li Meng who garnered more votes at the end.

On the men's side, it was Scottie Thompson (Philippines) who was voted by the fans as the Player of the Year (Men) 2022, beating out Japan's Yuta Watanabe in the Final.

*This Fan Vote is not an official award from FIBA or FIBA Regional Office Asia. It is created solely to enhance the experience of the fans to show their support for their favorite players/plays/moments in 2022.
