MUNICH (Germany) - A new FIBA Europe Cup season brings new players as well as familiar faces playing for different teams.
We've picked out five of the players that will be suiting up for a new team in the competition having made a switch in the off-season.
Olivier HANLAN - Itelyum Varese (from Gaziantep)
GUARD
Birth Date: February 15, 1993 (30 years old)
Height: 1.93m
Nationality: CAN
Hanlan is well versed in FIBA Europe Cup action having already represented three different teams in the competition. The Canadian was part of the Gaziantep side that made it to the Quarter-Finals last season and earned the Player of the Month award for January - averaging 16.8 points per game in the campaign.
Hanlan previously averaged 19.8 points for Iraklis in the 2019-20 season and will be one to watch for Italian outfit Varese upon their return to the competition.
Wesley VAN BECK - NINERS Chemnitz (from BC Kalev/Cramo)
SHOOTING GUARD
Birth Date: January 22, 1996 (27 years old)
Height: 1.93m
Nationality: USA
Van Beck was part of Kalev/Cramo's historic run to the Semi-Finals in last season's edition having been a constant threat from beyond the arc. The 27-year-old was the team's leading scorer with 13.6 points per game, whilst shooting 40-of-99 from three-point range.
A summer switch to Germany sees Van Beck don the Niners Chemnitz jersey this season and hope to inspire another deep run in the competition. Just don't leave him open.
Deondre BURNS - BG Gottingen (from Keravnos BC)
POINT GUARD
Birth Date: January 16, 1997 (26 years old)
Height: 1.91m
Nationality: USA
Burns lit up the FIBA Europe Cup last season with 19.3 points per game for Keravnos as the league's second leading scorer. The electric guard opened the season with 27 points and followed it up with a best of 29 points in the Second Round having helped the Cypriot side advance.
The American is set for a return for his former side with new club BG Gottingen drawn in the same group as Keravnos in the Regular Season. Burns' partner-in-crime Ousman Krubally is also set for new colors in FIBA Europe Cup action having signed for Bnei Ofek Dist Herzliya.
Johnny BERHANEMESKEL - Gravelines Dunkerque (from Budivelnyk Kyiv)
SHOOTING GUARD
Birth Date: October 30, 1992 (30 years old)
Height: 1.88m
Nationality: ERI / CAN
Berhanemeskel enjoyed an impressive campaign at BC Budivelnyk Kyiv, helping the Ukrainian side all the way to the Quarter-Finals. The sharpshooter averaged 15.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game across 11 appearances last season with a best of 31 points in the Regular Season.
This season sees Berhanesmekel suit up for French outfit BCM Gravelines Dunkerque and will look to play an important role in the backcourt for the FIBA Europe Cup debutants.
Josip SOBIN - Legia Warszawa (from Anwil Wloclawek)
CENTER
Birth Date: August 31, 1989 (34 years old)
Height: 2.06m
Nationality: CRO
Another switch that has caught the eye is Sobin's move from Anwil Wloclawek to Legia Warszawa. The Croatian celebrated lifting the FIBA Europe Cup title last season having already made the Final before with another Polish side. Could it be a third this season?
Sobin was a solid option inside for Anwil last season with 9.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game on the way to becoming a champion. His experience will be a valuable asset for Legia as they return to the competition.
