BOURGES (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2017) - Italy denied Latvia another slice of history as they snapped up their second bronze medal in three editions of the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship.

Searching for their maiden podium finish, Latvia misfired and while their opponents also struggled to find their rhythm, Italy did enough to seal a 48-42 triumph. Alessandra Orsili was the standout player with 14 points and 9 rebounds.

Spain snapped up the last remaining ticket for the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 in similar fashion as they outlasted Germany 54-49 in another defensively dominated encounter.

They had Helena Pueyo to thank for booking a ticket to Minsk as the guard registered 17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Netherlands will compete in Division A next year after they grabbed the win they needed to avoid the drop to the second tier. They beat Lithuania 67-59 after lighting it up from long range in the final period and Maaike van Ziejl coming alive with 21 points

There were also last day wins for Czech Republic, Turkey, Belarus and Russia who all signed off on a positive note.
