    All you need to know: FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2024

    The FIBA U16 EuroBasket will see the top nations fight for one of international basketball's most coveted trophies at this age group.

    HERAKLION (Greece) - The FIBA U16 EuroBasket will see the top nations fight for one of international basketball's most coveted trophies at this age group.

    The tournament takes place in Heraklion in Crete, Greece from August 9-17.

    Who is participating?

    A total of 16 teams will compete for the title. They have have been split into four groups of four with the Group Phase as follows:

    Group A: Finland, Latvia, Turkiye, Spain Group B: Bulgaria, Germany, Serbia, Lithuania Group C: Georgia, Poland, Slovenia, France Group D: Croatia, Israel, Greece, Italy

    What is the schedule?

    The Group Phase will take place across the first three days of the tournament with a rest day on August 12. The competition will continue in the form of the bracket beginning with the Round of 16 starting on August 13 until the Final on August 17, with the Classification games also determining each of the 16 positions.

    Who were the winners in 2023?

    Spain reclaimed their U16 title and re-established themselves as the team to beat in this age group after beating Italy 77-68 in the Final, completing a perfect tournament by not dropping a game. Guillermo Del Pino top scored with 22 points.

    Despite hosting the tournament, North Macedonia finished bottom of the pile and were relegated to Division B alongside Belgium with Croatia and Bulgaria taking their spots this summer.

    Former MVPs

    Guillermo Del Pino made it a hat-trick of Spanish MVP winners at the FIBA U16 EuroBasket, further showcasing their prowess in this tournament.

    The previous five winners are as follows: 2023: Guillermo Del Pino (ESP) 2022: Mario Saint-Supery (ESP) 2019: Ruben Dominguez (ESP) 2018: Roko Prkacin (CRO) 2017: Killian Hayes (FRA)

    Roll of honor

    Spain claimed their sixth title last summer and are now just two golds behind Yugoslavia, who have eight in their possession. The Spaniards do hold the most overall podium finishes with 20.
