Game of the Week: Villeneuve d'Ascq LM vs KGHM BC Polkowice
The home side missed a big chance last week when they were beaten at Basket Landes. They are in 3rd place in Group B with a 7-6 record and have been excellent all season long at home with a 5-1 record on their own court. This included a victory against leaders ZVVZ USK Praha last time they were in front of the home fans. A win and they are guaranteed a last eight spot.
Meanwhile, KGHM BC Polkowice are currently 6th in the standings with a 6-7 record and are 1-5 on the road. In the first meeting of the season between both clubs, they took an impressive 77-61 success and that will give them hope of completing a double. If they are victorious, they will take a Quarter-Finals ticket unless Virtus Segafredo Bologna win and Perfumerias Avenida lose.
You can watch the live broadcast of the game between Villeneuve d'Ascq LM vs KGHM BC Polkowice with commentary on the EuroLeague Women YouTube channel on Tuesday, January 30 at 20:30 CET.
Key matchup: In the first meeting, Zala Friskovec torched Villeneuve and went 6 of 9 so it will be interesting to see if the Slovenian ace can replicate that kind of shooting, since her team will probably need it. It might be that she also has a big defensive duty to lead on, since Friskovec might be asked to take care of the dangerous Kennedy Burke.
The December MVP has been on fire for Villeneuve d'Ascq LM and it has not only been her prolific returns that have been so impressive, but also her defensive work. In fact, she currently leads the competition in steals with more than 3 per game.
