MUNICH (Germany) - Basket Landes spoiled the Spar Girona party on Wednesday night as they denied their hosts a EuroLeague Women Quarter-Finals ticket to send Beretta Famila Schio to the last eight instead.

Spar Girona headed into their last game of the Regular Season knowing a home court victory would be enough to take the last remaining spot in the Quarter-Finals, but had not counted on Basket Landes producing the goods and claiming a 78-70 triumph.

The visitors were always on the front foot and snapped the game open with a big third quarter. They won the period 25-14, hitting a bucket on the buzzer to maintain their momentum heading into the last 10 minutes, which helped them stave off a late comeback bid by Girona.  Regan Magarity was the standout baller as she completed a double-double of 17 points and 11 boards.

The Basket Landes success was no more loudly celebrated than by Beretta Famila Schio, who can now look forward to the Quarter-Finals, finishing 8-6 along with Sopron Basket and Dynamo Kursk, behind Group B winners, Fenerbahce Safiport.

Elsewhere, UMMC Ekaterinburg showed why they continue to be red hot favorites to retain their crown after completing the outstanding feat of going the entire Regular Season unbeaten in Group A. They made it 14-0 with a typically commanding 104-65 win against MBA Moscow in their last game before the Quarter-Finals.

There was a trio of excellent showings, led by Emma Meesseman with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Jonquel Jones weighed in with 24 points and 10 boards, while Allie Quigley also did the business with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

In stark contrast, a miserable debut season for KSC Szekszard ended with a gut-wrenching 69-68 defeat that witnessed them bow out with an unwanted 0-14 record against their name.

Nikolina Milic did her best to inspire her team to a historic first win by contributing 17 points and 10 boards, but it wasn't to be. It was 18-year-old Vanessa Jasa who starred for TTT, both top scoring with 18 points, and sinking what proved to be the winning basket. Riga now move to the EuroCup Women Quarter-Finals.

Meanwhile 24 hours earlier, BLMA were overwhelmed 74-52 by Umana Reyer and the form of the French side will be a concern for head coach Valery Demory considering his team have landed a Quarter-Finals ticket.

    ...

BLMA were undone by a pair of excellent displays from Martina Bestagno and Kayla Thornton, The former torched the home team with 21 points, while Thornton had 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the EuroCup Women bound Umana Reyer.
