MUNICH (Germany) - Roberto Iniguez has been named the EuroLeague Women Coach of the Year for the second season in a row in recognition of another super campaign with Perfumerias Avenida.
Having taken the 2021 edition of the accolade after leading Avenida to the Final Four for the first time in a decade, the playcaller went on to take the Salamanca-based club to the title game.
Now, Iniguez is relishing the prospect of potentially going one step further as he prepares to step out at Final Four for an incredible eighth time in his career.
Pitched into a tough Regular Season group containing reigning champions UMMC Ekaterinburg and ZVVZ USK Praha, Iniguez guided his team to an eye-catching 11-3 record in Group A, prior to moving past Spar Girona in the Quarter-Finals.
Iniguez was ranked first by his coaching peers, as well as amongst the club captains, while polling in second place by fans and in third place by the media. He fought off competition from his compatriot Victor Lapena of Fenerbahce Safiport who was second overall, as well as Semi-Finals opponent David Gaspar of Sopron Basket who finished in third place.
The Euroleague Women Awards recognize the top players and coaches of the 2021-22 campaign, with EuroLeague Women coaches, captains, selected media and fans from all around the world deciding the winners.
