CHARLEROI (Belgium) - There was a major chunk of EuroLeague Women history claimed on Wednesday night as Nadezhda forward Anastasiya Verameyenka became the EuroLeague Women all-time leading shot blocker.
The Belarusian added a super 6 blocks to her total as her team took a one-sided 80-47 road triumph.
It was her only her second game back in the competition since Verameyenka wore the famous vest of Fenerbahce, where many of her blocks were amassed. She only just fell short of attaining the record last season whilst with the Istanbul giants.
Now back at Nadezhda for a second spell, Veraymeyenka got the blocks she needed to pass Russian and EuroLeague Women legend Maria Stepanova, who had held top spot for several years.
Of course she is now likely to add to her tally further, with Brittney Griner of UMMC the only other still active player in the top five of the all-time list.
