Sopron Basket, TTT Riga forfeit cancelled fixtures

MUNICH (Germany) - The Single Judge has made a ruling on the two cancelled EuroLeague Women games, handing Sopron Basket and TTT Riga forfeits in their respective Gameday 14 fixtures.

MUNICH (Germany) - The Single Judge has made a ruling on the two cancelled EuroLeague Women games, handing Sopron Basket and TTT Riga forfeits in their respective Gameday 14 fixtures.

As per the Official Basketball Rules, the games were awarded to their respective opponents with a score of 20-0. Furthermore, the forfeiting teams will receive 0 classification points in the standings.

Due to exceptional circumstances in Northern Italy, the two games – Famila Schio vs Sopron Basket and Reyer Venezia vs TTT Riga – had been rescheduled and moved to Ljubljana, Slovenia.

In consultation with all four clubs involved and their National Federations and following official statements of the state authorities in Italy, Hungary and Latvia, FIBA Europe had taken swift measures and sought for the best available solution for the health and safety of the teams and the smooth running of the competition.

On its own costs and considering the ease of travel for the clubs involved, FIBA Europe, in cooperation with the National Federation of Slovenia, organized another venue in a safe environment on neutral soil in the city of Ljubljana.

However, Sopron Basket and TTT Riga informed FIBA Europe they would not be travelling, citing health concerns related to the coronavirus outbreak in Italy.

The Judge found no grounds to support their argument and ruled accordingly.

Keeping the interests of the stakeholders involved, FIBA Europe will continue to monitor the situation regarding public health and safety in Europe.
